Vinegar to Help Get Rid of Hiccups

by Katie

For as long as I can remember, my mother told me to take a spoon full of peanut butter to get rid of my hiccups, but all it succeeded in doing was making it difficult to talk for a while (which could have been what she wanted anyway).

After a particularly painful episode of hiccups that lasted for 10 1/2 hours, I started asking a couple of people how to get rid of them. A friend of mine told me to swallow a tablespoon of either regular distilled vinegar or a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar. Within 10-15 minutes the hiccups were gone. This has been the only way that I have found to get rid of my hiccups.

Give it a try the next time any traditional way doesn't work!

Well, this is something new to me. I usually take water to get rid of hiccups, but never heard about having vinegar for the same. And I do even doubt about the effectiveness of this particular method, since vinegar is acidic.

Vinegar & Hiccups
by: Grandma

Hi Katie,

Thank you so much for your tip on getting rid of hiccups. I would have never thought of trying to swollow vinegar. There was a time I went through a couple of days suffering from hiccups and no matter what I tried it just didn't work until finally I went to a Chiropractor. I'll be sure to rememeber your handy vinegar tip.
