Snake Repellants

Happy Mother's Day "Grandma"!!!!!!!

What do you recommend to keeps snakes out of the yard. I don't live in a wooded area as I have a corner lot with neighbors on the other three sides. I've heard of lyme or sulfur but not sure. I'm thinking of putting a swing set in the back for the grandkids and don't want to have to worry about them getting snake bitten; the mosquitoes are bad enough.

As always, I appreciate your wisdom and quick responses.

Snakes

I live in the country and see a lot of snakes. Moth balls placed around property line helps some. I put the balls out about 2 feet a part.

Snake Repellent
by: Grandma

Hi Sylvia,

Thank you so much for taking the time to wish me a Happy Mother's Day, I really appreciate the thought.

I hate to tell you this Sylvia but there is really no natural snake repellent that actually works. I did some research after getting your submission and found that any tried repellent didn't work. Of course they have poisons but snakes are so beneficial to our environment it would be a crime to kill them. Don't get me wrong, snakes and rodents really creep me out but they do have their purpose in our world. I do understand wanting to protect your grandchildren. You might consider placing the swing set on cement or putting a galvanized mesh fence around the area but you'd have to plant it outward and about 3 inches in the ground.

It was really interesting to read about this so thanks for the submission.
