Kicking the Smoking Habit!

Do you have a natural remedy that would make it a little easier to quite smoking? I have been smoking for 25 years and I'm really ready to quit for good! I'm thinking a good body detox to get the nicotine out of my system will make it a little faster? Please help...I'm pretty scared I'll freak out and not quit!! BTW...I love your site!

Home Remedies to Stop Smoking
by: Grandma

I'm so sorry, I really don't have any home remedies to stop smoking. I'm sure there are some but it's something I've never really done research on.

I think the most important part of any addiction is knowing when you are ready to stop. I also think that doing it gradually would be the best way to go. For instance, say you smoke a pack a day, 20 cigarettes. The first week, take 2 cigarettes out of your pack each day and put them into an empty pack. 18 cigarettes for 7 days. Then the second week, take 4 out of each pack. By the third week you'd have a couple packs of cigarettes you won't have to buy. Plus, they'll be a bit stale by then and not taste as good. It's all about tricking your mind. Making you think about how much money you are now saving. Once you start getting down to half a pack you can start telling yourself that you really don't need them as much as you thought. And again, once you get down to only a few a day you'll realize you really don't need them at all.

It's important to think about when you do light up. Most of the time you're doing it without even thinking. Like when on the phone, or taking a break, or going to the bathroom. Most of the time you really don't need a cigarette, it's just something to put in your hand and babysit. It does help to use chewing gum or lollypops when you feel you need something to help take your mind off of the addiction.

A detox might be a good idea. But I really don't think it's going to help much in the beginning. I think finding little tricks to make you forget about the habit will help the most.
