Dry Hair and Hair Loss or Thinning Hair

by Gina
(Modesto, Ca)

Dear Grandma,

I'm in my early 50'. I had a very healthy head of hair, all of a sudden, one day my hair became very dry and itching, but there's no dandruff. It is also very brittle, shampoos and conditions and perms made it worst. My hair will not curl anymore!! Please help if you can.

My doctor checked my thyroid and hormonal balance everything is okay. I'm practically wearing a wig now. Some friends say it may be the blood pressure pills or my age, is there any hope for me???

Hair Loss & Medication
by: Grandma

Hello Esther,

I have no doubt the hair loss you're experiencing is due to the medication you're taking, especially since your doctor warned you this could be a side effect.

I wish I could help you with this problem but I never recommend a medical doctor and to be honest I have no idea where you are located.

If I were experiencing what you are going through I'd find a Natural Health Practioner in your area. You can usually locate them through health food stores or at least get a reference there. I realize you're on a fixed income and your medical care won't pay for a consultation but I think it would be worth at least getting some advice on what you can do.

I wish I could have been of more help but even if I knew what medications you are taking I probably wouldn't know much about it. I'm just not real impressed with the medical field.

Take care,

Grandma

I'm going bald please help I'm desperate!
by: Esther

I'm so desperate I'm 54 years old and I'm going on a year that I started my hep. "C" Treatment and when I was to began my treatment and was given consoltation of things that might happen during my treatment and one of them was that the medications could cause lhair loss to some well I was one of the unlucky ones because I didn't just loose a little hair but I've been haveing gobs of hair comeing out all the time not just when I would comb it.So now I've began to look for a doctor that can help me with my problem so if you can refer me to a doctor that can help me I live on a fixed incom and have medical so if it's possible to find a doctor that exceps medical if not a doctor that don't charge to much for the visit, which I would have to pay for if there's no doctor that eceps medical.

Vitamin Deficiency in Hair Loss
by: Grandma

Hello Gina,

First of all, don't let anybody tell you that dry brittle hair and hair loss is normal, it isn't. Your symptoms make me suspecious of vitamin deficiency, especially vitamin A and vitamin B6.

Now don't go out and buy a bottle of vitamin A, it's too easy for it to be toxic if you take too much. But I would increase green, orange and yellow fruits and vegetable in my diet, espeically foods like sweet potatoes, cantalope and papayas. Another good natural source of vitamin A is the herb alfalfa, I've taken alfalfa for years.

One of the signs of vitamin B6 deficiency is hair loss among many others signs. I'd try buy a bottle of B6 and take the dosage on the bottle. You can also get B6 naturally by eating spinach, sunflower seeds and wheat germ.

In fact if you're suspecious you may be going through the change right now, I'd try to eat sweet potatoes several times a week. This will naturally help keep your hormonal level from dropping.

Thanks for trusting in Grandma's Wisdom,

Grandma
