Hi Grandma

I Thank God for grandma'wisdom.

I have a 2 yr old son and he has a very high WBC count and constant constipation problem.. Everytime he wants to pass stools he will go and stand in one corner and squeeze his legs but will refuse to sit on the pot. He does not like drinking a lot of water and so he passes stools every 2nd or 3rd day. He has been suffering from running stuffed nose and now dry cough which come only between 3 am and 6 am in the early hours of morning. Could you guide me on this please. Also some home remedies for appetite and building his immune system.

Thank you n God bless you.

Constipation and Dehydration
by: Grandma

Hello Shirley,

It sounds like your poor little guy is having a tough time at such a young age.

I believe the reason he's having such a tough time with bowel movements is because he's dehydrated. When the stools are dry it's very hard to pass them through the intestines. That is probably why he is standing in the corner and squeezing his legs while working at moving the stool down and out. So the first thing I would suggest is getting him hydrated. I realize you said he won't drink much water but I want you to try this recipe. Boil about a liter or quart of water, once the water comes to a boil turn it off and add 1 teaspoon of salt (sea salt) and 8 teaspoons of sugar. Stir and let stand until it comes to room temperature. Then store in the refrigerator. Give him a few ounces through the day. This will not only hydrate him it will also restore his eletrolytes. He'll love drinking it because it's sweet and taste good. Don't give him too much all at once no matter how much he likes it! Just a few ounces every hour or so.

Next I'd suggest mixing up a pudding made from only three ingredients. 1 cup of applesauce, 3/4 cup of prune juice, and 1 cup of unprocessed wheat bran. Whip it together and keep it stored in your refrigerator. Give him a teaspoon every morning. This recipe has helped many children and even people in hospitals with chronic constipation.

As far as the nights and his congestion and coughing, I'm a bit suspecious of an allergic reaction to something in his bedroom. If it was a virus you would notice these symptoms all day and night. You're going to have to put your detective hat on and really seach around his sleeping area, it could be something as simple as his blanket. Or perhabs he is eating something before bedtime that he has a food allergy to. It's really hard to say.

You might also want to try putting a vaporizer in his room and adding a pinch of sea salt. It could be that his sinus cavities are getting dry during the night. You can also make a mixture of a fresh squeezed lemon and a few tablespoons of honey to keep on hand for when he gets coughing at night. Give him a teaspoon at a time to see if that quiets his cough.

Thank you so much for visiting Grandma's Wisdom it warms my heart to know that people as far away as India is coming to my website and enjoying it.

As far as his immune system I believe once you get his constipation and hydration under control the immune system will get stronger. You could give him some vitamin C, like orange juice and apple juice and give his immune system a quick start.

You and your son will be in my prayers,

Grandma
